Calculate Workmen's Compensation Fund payments when an employee injured or ill because of work is told by a doctor to stop working: 70% of monthly wages, up to THB 14,000 a month.
How it works
Under Social Security Office rules, compensation for inability to work is 70% of monthly wages from the first day off on a doctor's certificate, for no more than 1 year in total. The current maximum is 20,000 × 70% = THB 14,000 a month. Daily wages are converted with × 26, and part months use monthly compensation × days ÷ 30, as in the SSO examples.
SSO examples: a THB 20,000 salary with 2 months off receives 14,000 × 2 = THB 28,000. A THB 325 daily wage is THB 8,450 a month; 70% is THB 5,915, so 12 days off pays 5,915 × 12 ÷ 30 = THB 2,366. A THB 50,000 salary still receives THB 14,000 a month because of the wage cap.
Only for time off due to work-related injury or illness. Medical costs and compensation for loss of organs, disability or death follow separate rules. Some SSO examples show amounts rounded down slightly, such as THB 2,333.30, so actual payments may differ by a few satang. Entitlement depends on the office's decision.
Frequently asked questions
What if I earn over THB 20,000?
Wages used are capped at THB 20,000, so compensation is at most THB 14,000 a month under SSO rules.
How are daily wages treated?
Multiply by 26 to get a monthly wage, then take 70%, as in the SSO examples.
How is this different from social security sickness pay?
This comes from the Workmen's Compensation Fund for work-related harm. Social security sickness pay covers illness not caused by work.
