Budget for one Bangkok metered taxi ride, or add extras to a final meter reading. See the meter component, pickup surcharge, tolls and baggage separately in Thai baht (THB). For ordinary Bangkok-registered taxis using this meter tariff. Starting figures are examples, not a quote for a particular route.

How it works

Before a ride Select the THB 35 or 40 starting fare shown on the taxi’s rate card; this already includes the first kilometre. Enter the road distance and only the minutes stopped or moving at no more than 6 km/h. The budget model adds the starting fare, distance-band charges and a slow-time allowance.

Distance bands The reference table shows each band. Charge only the distance within each band, not the entire journey at its highest rate. Slow time is allowed at THB 3 per minute. Distance and time accept increments of 0.1.

Extras Select one pickup method: street hail has no surcharge here, metered dispatch adds THB 20, and an official Suvarnabhumi/Don Mueang taxi queue adds THB 50. The airport fee applies to that queue pickup, not merely to a ride going to the airport. Add your entered tolls and confirmed baggage charge once each.

Worked example A THB 35 start, 12.5 km and 10 slow minutes gives 35 + (9 × 6.50) + (2.5 × 7) + (10 × 3) = THB 141 before extras. This is a budget example, not a guaranteed meter reading.

After a ride Use the meter-reading mode: final meter amount + pickup surcharge + tolls + baggage. Starting fare, distance and slow time are not added again. The result is the whole ride’s cost, including any tolls already paid, not the remaining amount owed to the driver.

Scope Based on the Ministry of Transport’s B.E. 2565 announcement, effective 13 January 2023, for taxis covered by clause 2. Excludes special/VIP taxis, vehicles registered for electronic private hire and agreed flat fares. The estimate uses continuous distance and time allowances; it does not reproduce a taximeter’s pulses or rounding. Actual routes and traffic movement can change the reading. Settle using the actual meter reading and confirmed extras.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose a THB 35 or 40 starting fare?

Check the taxi’s rate card or meter. Clause 3(1) lists the larger three-section car and van body categories at THB 40; other covered taxis under clause 3(2) start at THB 35. All subsequent distance bands are the same. These starting fares do not cover VIP taxis or flat-fare services.

Does this estimate Grab, Bolt or taxis in other provinces?

Only an ordinary Bangkok-registered taxi using this meter tariff is covered. App flat fares, vehicles registered for electronic private hire, VIP taxis and other provincial tariffs are outside scope. The THB 20 metered-dispatch surcharge is not an all-inclusive fee for every ride-hailing app.

Is there a THB 50 charge for every airport journey?

It applies when taking a waiting taxi at the official queue at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK), as specified in the announcement. A hotel-to-airport drop-off alone does not qualify. Enter expressway tolls separately for your chosen route.

Does a different meter reading prove an overcharge?

No. The estimate does not reproduce taximeter distance pulses, fare increments or rounding, and your distance and slow-time inputs may differ from the actual trip. To total spending after the ride, enter the final meter reading and check each extra separately.

Are baggage charges and live traffic calculated automatically?

No. There are no live maps, toll prices or traffic feeds. Baggage cost is an amount you have already confirmed, not a charge calculated from bag sizes or quantities. Adding that amount does not certify that a fee is legally chargeable.
