Work out who pays whom after a trip. Enter shared expenses paid to vendors by A–H in Thai baht. Split equally or by shares, such as 2:1:1, for 2–8 people. Use one ratio for all bills in an unsettled round. Starting amounts are examples. No names or bank details are needed.
How it works
1. Add shared expenses Include only payments to vendors. Exclude personal spending and repayments to friends. Use final amounts including taxes and service charges.
2. Allocate cost shares Equal splitting gives everyone 1 share. Weighted splitting uses total × individual shares ÷ all shares. A 2:1:1 ratio means 50%:25%:25%. Use 0 for a person who pays but owes no part of the cost; at least one person needs a positive share.
3. Reconcile satang Work in whole satang, initially round each allocation down, then assign remaining satang to the largest fractional remainders. Ties follow A–H order. THB 100 split three ways becomes THB 33.34, 33.33 and 33.33, still totalling THB 100.
4. Settle balances Paid − cost share gives the net balance. Positive means to receive; negative means to pay. Match payers and recipients in letter order until every balance clears. The number of transfers is not guaranteed to be the smallest possible.
Example A pays THB 1,800, B pays THB 900 and C pays THB 0: THB 2,700 total. Equal shares are THB 900 each, so C pays A THB 900. At 2:1:1, cost shares are THB 1,350 / 675 / 675, so C pays A THB 450 and B THB 225.
The Bank of Thailand source confirms baht and satang units. The U.S. Census Bureau describes the largest remainder method, which this tool adapts to satang allocation. It is not a statutory rule for splitting bills or an official fee schedule.
Frequently asked questions
What if someone skipped a meal or an activity?
Calculate separate rounds for expenses with different participants or ratios. This tool applies one ratio to every expense in a round. A zero share is appropriate only when that person owes no part of the entire round.
Where do I enter repayments already made?
This tool calculates the schedule before settlement and has no partial-repayment ledger. Do not enter repayments to friends as vendor payments: that would incorrectly increase total costs. Check earlier transfers against the schedule separately before paying.
Can I use several currencies or a child rate?
First convert every expense to Thai baht using the amount actually paid. If the group agrees, a child can have 1 share and an adult 2 shares, provided that ratio applies to all bills. The tool does not supply live exchange rates.
Will repayments reconcile exactly?
Yes, for inputs with up to two decimal places. Cost shares sum to actual spending, and total outgoing repayments equal total receipts. Uneven division may assign an extra THB 0.01 according to the remainder rule. Agree separately on transfer fees and cash rounding.
