Calculate Thai inheritance tax under the Inheritance Tax Act 2015 from the property received from one deceased, less inherited debts, on the part above THB 100 million at the rate for your relationship.
How it works
Net inheritance = all property received from that deceased, in one or several instalments, less the debts inherited with it. Only the part above THB 100 million is taxed, at 10%, or 5% if the heir is an ascendant or descendant (sections 12 and 16). The Act does not apply to inheritance received by a spouse (section 3).
Example: a child inheriting THB 150 million with no debts pays 5% on the THB 50 million excess, THB 2,500,000. Another heir pays 10%, THB 5,000,000. Receiving THB 120 million with THB 30 million of inherited debt leaves THB 90 million net, so no tax is due.
Property must be valued under the law, such as official appraisal for real estate and the closing price on the day received for listed securities. Ministerial exemptions for religious, educational or public-benefit purposes, penalties and surcharges are excluded, and it does not divide the estate among heirs.
Frequently asked questions
Is tax due below THB 100 million?
No inheritance tax is due; only net inheritance from each deceased above THB 100 million is taxed.
Are inheritances from father and mother combined?
The Act works per deceased person, so inheritances from a father and a mother are assessed separately. Calculate each one.
Who pays the tax?
The heir is liable and must file within 150 days of receiving the inheritance that made tax due.
