Include product cost, packaging, seller-paid shipping and sales fees. See per-item profit, margin, markup and total contribution before fixed costs.

How it works

Direct cost = product + packaging + seller-paid shipping. Fee = selling price × fee percentage. Per-item contribution = price − direct cost − fee. Margin = contribution / price × 100. Here, markup = after-fee contribution / direct cost × 100.

Example: a THB 250 sale with costs of 100 + 10 + 30 and an 8% fee (THB 20) contributes THB 90 per item: a 36% margin. Selling 100 items contributes THB 9,000 before fixed costs.

Rent, payroll, business taxes and returns are not deducted. Use amounts on a consistent tax basis. Negative values mean a loss; markup is undefined when direct cost is zero.

Frequently asked questions

How do margin and markup differ?

Margin divides contribution by the selling price; markup divides it by direct cost, so the percentages differ.

How many sales cover my rent and overhead?

Use the break-even calculator to include fixed costs over a matching period.
