Convert Thai gold weight between baht, salung and grams, then work out the purchase price with making charges, the resale value and the round-trip loss for 96.5% bars or ornaments using your shop's quoted prices.

How it works

Thai gold is weighed in baht; 1 baht = 4 salung. A 96.5% bar weighs 15.244 g per baht and 96.5% ornaments use 15.16 g per baht. Purchase = baht-weight × shop selling price + making charge. Resale = baht-weight × buyback price. Loss = purchase − resale.

Example: a 2-salung bar = 0.5 baht = 7.622 g. At THB 40,000 per baht it costs THB 20,000; sold back at THB 39,800 it returns THB 19,900, a THB 100 difference. A 1-baht ornament at THB 40,000 plus THB 1,000 making charge costs THB 41,000.

Prices in the fields are examples, not today's price; use the price quoted by the shop or the Gold Traders Association when you trade. Shops may deduct for wear or price ornament buybacks differently. Gold that is not 96.5% or foreign gold needs its own purity and weight.

Frequently asked questions

How many grams in one baht of gold?

A 96.5% bar is 15.244 g; 96.5% ornaments use 15.16 g under Thai gold trading practice.

What is a making charge?

It is the labour and design cost of ornaments, paid on top of the gold value and usually not returned on resale, so ornaments lose more on a round trip than bars.

What is half a salung?

Half a salung = 0.125 baht, about 1.895 g for ornaments. Choose salung and enter 0.5.
